The New Academic Practitioners’ Programme (NAPP) run by the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT) provides opportunities for new academics at UCT to develop as educators, researchers and members of the university community. ADP participated in the residential part of the programme that took place from 25 to 27 January at the Mont Fleur Conference Centre close to Stellenbosch.

Dr Sheena Rughubar-Reddy, a Numeracy Centre lecturer, returned from a conference in Berlin in July where the Numeracy Centre was praised by one of the organisers, Professor Iddo Gal. Prof Gal is an international expert on statistical literacy and who visited the Numeracy Centre a couple of years ago.

The Writing Centre and the Numeracy Centre of ADP ran two two-hour workshops for the participants in the 100UP Grade 12 residential holiday camp programme in July. Academic literacies are vitally important for success at university and often present obstacles to first year students, so it was exciting for ADP staff to have the opportunity to introduce these promising grade 12 learners to the literacy requirements of university study.

The FHS Writing Lab, which provides specialist writing support for Health Sciences staff and students, celebrated its official launch on Thursday 19 May. The launch, which forms part of the Health Sciences month-long Language Festival, is just one of the ways in which the faculty is showcasing their constructive engagement with language and inclusivity.
